The dietary supplement "Molecule" contains an amphetamine-type chemical compound capable of causing psychosis. Narcologist Vasily Shurov told Izvestia about this on April 16.

He explained that the "Molecule" contains sibutramine, an amphetamine—type chemical compound that used to be found in another weight loss drug. As the narcologist explained, the compound is a psychostimulant that can cause psychosis, and it is easy to overdose.

"[Another drug similar to the "Molecule"] is prescribed according to subject-based prescriptions. A person can't order it just like that. This is a drug of strict accounting. <...> Now they have come up with some kind of "Molecule" to circumvent the scheme, but it is still a powerful psychosymulator," Shurov said.

According to the doctor, the legal analogue of the "Molecule" was prescribed if the patient had a second degree of obesity. In addition, the narcologist clarified that it is wrong to call the weight loss drug "Molecule" narcotic, because sibutramine has not yet been included in the list of prohibited substances.

The doctor noted that children are not allowed to take the drug, but it is important for teenagers to keep a certain dose.

Earlier, on April 16, Izvestia found out during the investigation that the weight loss drugs "Molecule" and "Molecule Plus", which gained popularity thanks to videos on the TikTok social network, contain sibutramine. At the same time, the instructions indicate that the dietary supplement contains only natural herbal ingredients.

The victim Polina Khlypovka, who took the "Molecule" pills for weight loss, shared on the same day in an interview with Izvestia that she was "at her maximum weight" as a result of using the drug. The girl took pills for two months, suffering from unbearable thirst and sweating.
