The US armed forces have begun withdrawing special forces stationed at a military base near the Koniko gas field in the province of Deir ez-Zor in Syria. This was reported by the Clash Report on April 16.

"The first column of more than 70 vehicles left ten days ago, followed on April 13 by a second column of more than 200 vehicles," the message posted on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

It is specified that the troops are being withdrawn to Iraqi Kurdistan, where a large US base is located.

On February 5, NBC News reported that the U.S. Department of Defense is developing plans for the withdrawal of American troops from Syria. According to a number of officials, the withdrawal of American troops may leave the Kurdish formations of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) without the necessary support, which in turn may negatively affect the protection of prisons and refugee camps.
