- The endocrinologist warned about the possible consequences of taking dietary supplements from marketplaces

The danger of taking biologically active additives (dietary supplements) from marketplaces is that these drugs may contain dangerous substances. On April 16, Yulia Sidorova, an endocrinologist and nutritionist, told Izvestia.
According to her, in the history of mankind, there are many drugs that were once used to reduce weight, and some of them led to side effects. One of these drugs is sibutramine.
Dietary supplements may contain prohibited substances, because such drugs do not undergo clinical trials, they do not have a specific classification, the doctor noted.
"Sibutramine has been banned since 2010. The danger of using biologically active additives from marketplaces is precisely that we do not know what the composition is. There may be dangerous substances such as sibutramine, thyroid hormones, which were also detected by independent laboratory examinations," Sidorova explained.
She stressed that the "Molecule" and "Molecule Plus" weight loss products are usually used by overweight or obese people who have a high risk of cardiovascular diseases.
"If we are talking about an unknown composition, about extreme weight loss, which these pills "guarantee", this is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disasters, heart attacks, strokes, as well as nervous system disorders, insomnia, sleep disorders, anxiety," concluded the endocrinologist-nutritionist.
Earlier, on April 16, Izvestia found out during the investigation that the weight loss drugs "Molecule" and "Molecule Plus", which gained popularity thanks to videos on the TikTok social network, contain sibutramine. At the same time, the instructions indicate that the composition of the dietary supplement contains only natural herbal ingredients. Rospotrebnadzor has prepared a requirement to provide documents on the drug content in popular weight loss products — "Molecule" and "Molecule plus".
The victim Polina Khlypovka, who took the "Molecule" pills for weight loss, shared on the same day in an interview with Izvestia that she was "at her maximum weight" as a result of using the drug. The girl took pills for two months, suffering from unbearable thirst and sweating.
