Over the past day, 276 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 24 people were killed and 297 injured. 20 of the dead were passengers and drivers of vehicles. This was reported to Izvestia on April 16 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

So, in the Trans-Baikal Territory, on 1,094 km of the federal highway R—258 Baikal (Irkutsk - Ulan—Ude - Chita), a 55-year-old car driver drove into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place, where he collided with a truck. As a result of the accident, the culprit of the car accident died.

26 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which there were no fatalities, but 28 road users needed medical help. The reason for 18 bus accidents was traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles. As a result of 89 accidents, 40 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 49 outside their area of operation, four pedestrians were killed, and 88 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 26 child pedestrians, 12 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway in unintended places.

In the Krasnodar Territory, in the evening, on 18 km of the Tbilisi—Novovladimir regional highway, a 31-year-old female driver ran over a 45-year-old pedestrian who was moving along the roadway in the same direction. The pedestrian died.

Over the past day, 37 accidents involving minors were registered, as a result of which 36 young road users were injured, including one passenger, two cyclists and five motor transport drivers under the age of 16. A child passenger died due to the fault of his father, who was transporting him in a passenger car.

So, in the Ryazan region, on 328 km of the federal highway M-5 Ural (Moscow — Ryazan — Penza — Samara — Ufa — Chelyabinsk), a 33-year-old car driver drove into the oncoming lane, where he collided with a truck. The driver of the car and his two passengers were killed in the accident, including his two-year-old son, who was in the back seat with a child restraint using a seat belt at the time of the accident.

The State Traffic Inspectorate reminded motorists that the lives and health of their passengers depend on skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding driving behavior.

"Give up risky driving, exceeding the speed limit, sudden changes of lanes, overtaking and other dangerous maneuvers. Always leave yourself plenty of time to react adequately to a possible change in the traffic situation at any moment. We also draw the attention of drivers to the strict observance of the rules for transporting children. Take care of your young passengers, preventing even the prerequisites for a possible tragedy," Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, told Izvestia.

So, in the first half of April, 225 accidents involving underage passengers occurred on Russian roads, in which six were killed and 259 children and teenagers were injured, he said.
