The Federation Council has ratified the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Russia and Iran

The members of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation have unanimously ratified the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Russia and Iran. The decision was made on April 16 during the 589th plenary session of the upper house of Senators.

The agreement stipulates that the countries will develop equal and mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of politics, defense, economy, security, trade, investment, as well as energy, infrastructure, transport and communications, noted in the Telegram channel of the Federation Council.

In addition, Russia and Iran will jointly carry out developments in the field of information technology, develop humanitarian relations, cooperate in the fields of culture, education, healthcare, tourism, sports, environmental protection and other areas of mutual interest.

In the field of security, the treaty stipulates that if one of the parties is subjected to aggression, the other side will not have to provide the aggressor with military or other assistance that contributes to the continuation of his actions. And it will help to resolve the differences that have arisen on the basis of the UN Charter and other norms of international law.

It was noted in a separate paragraph that the parties will cooperate in the development of international transport corridors running through Russia and Iran, one of which is the strategically important North-South.

Prior to that, on April 8, the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Russia and Iran was ratified by deputies of the State Duma (State Duma). It was noted that Russia and Iran are striving for close coordination of activities at the regional and global levels. The treaty was submitted to the State Duma for ratification on March 26 by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between the two countries was signed by Putin and Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian on January 17, which brought bilateral relations between Moscow and Tehran to a new level. The Russian leader called the document a breakthrough, and the tasks set in the new agreement between the two countries ambitious, aimed at developing cooperation. The document sets out the legal framework within which relations between the two countries will develop in the long term.
