In 2024, not a single child from the Russian Federation was adopted abroad. This was announced on April 16 by Maria Lvova-Belova, Commissioner for Children's Rights under the President of the Russian Federation.

"In 2024, we have achieved what we dreamed of. We don't have a single child who has been adopted abroad," she told RIA Novosti.

At the same time, she noted that 57 such cases were registered in 2022. In 2023, their number dropped to six.

On November 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law banning the adoption of children from Russia by citizens of countries where sex reassignment is allowed. It is noted that the restrictions will also affect citizens of those countries where sex reassignment is allowed with the use of medications that are aimed "at forming primary or secondary sexual characteristics of the other sex in a person, and making changes to the gender identity of these citizens in identity documents without medical intervention."
