The Organization of American States (OAS) points to irregularities in Ecuador's presidential election. This was announced by Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Wednesday, April 16.

"In conditions of a state of siege, free elections are impossible. I cannot recognize the elections in Ecuador," he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

Petro recalled that a state of emergency had been declared in seven provinces of Ecuador. According to the head of state, the military was in charge of the elections, including polling stations and vote counting.

Earlier, on April 13, the National Electoral Council of Ecuador named the current head of state Daniel Noboa the winner of the second round of the presidential election after processing more than 90% of the ballots. 55.88% of people voted for him, while his rival, presidential candidate from the Civil Revolution party, Luis Gonzalez, was supported by 44.12% of voters.
