Tesla's plan to produce new models has been suspended due to tariffs

Tesla has frozen its plan to produce Cybercab and Semi electric trucks due to tariffs on components from China imposed by US President Donald Trump. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on Wednesday, April 16, citing a source.
"Tesla's plans to supply components from China for Cybercab and Semi electric trucks in the United States have been suspended after President Donald Trump raised tariffs on Chinese goods amid a trade war," the publication says.
As indicated, such restrictive measures may disrupt Tesla's plans to launch mass production of the long-awaited models.
According to the agency, the company planned to start supplying components in the coming months to begin test production of two models in October and mass production in 2026.
At the same time, the source of the publication clarified that Tesla was ready to take on additional costs when Trump imposed a tariff of 34% on Chinese goods. But when it exceeded this value, Tesla suspended its plans.
On April 8, it was reported that the condition of the owner of Tesla and SpaceX, the head of the Department of State Efficiency (DOGE) Elon Musk's US dollar dropped below the $300 billion mark for the first time since November. It is specified that the company's securities have fallen by more than 50% compared to the record level, which was observed in mid-December 2024.
In addition, on April 7, it became known that Musk appealed to Trump to cancel high duties on goods from other countries, as tariffs could harm Tesla.
Earlier, on April 2, Trump announced the introduction of base duties of 10% for all products supplied to the United States. At the same time, tariffs for the EU will increase to 20%, and for goods from the People's Republic of China (PRC) — up to 34%.
