Hong Kong Post (PRC) suspends the acceptance of shipments with goods sent to the United States. This follows from the official statement of the postal service, published on the website on April 16.

"Hong Kong Post will definitely not charge any so-called tariffs on behalf of the United States and will suspend the acceptance of mail containing goods destined for the United States. <...> Hong Kong residents should be prepared to pay exorbitant and unreasonable amounts for shipments to the United States due to the unreasonable actions of the United States," the publication says.

They added that the measures would not apply to shipments of documents.

It is reported that the post office will contact the senders and arrange for the return of parcels and compensation.

Acceptance of land shipments will cease from today, and delivery by air will begin on April 27.

According to the statement, the US authorities will lift the duty-free limit for mail from Hong Kong to the United States from May 2 and increase tariffs on parcels with goods.

On April 2, Trump announced the introduction of 10% base duties on products imported from other countries. For the European Union (EU), this figure was raised to 20%, and for China — to 34%. On April 4, Beijing imposed retaliatory duties of 34% against the United States, after which Washington announced an increase in anti-Chinese duties to 104%. Later, the Chinese authorities decided to raise duties on imported goods from the United States to 84% as a mirror measure.

On April 9, President Trump announced the suspension of duties previously imposed on a number of countries for 90 days. He also announced an immediate increase in duties on products from China to 125%. On April 10, this figure reached 145%.
