Pain in the navel area can be the result of various diseases, both mild and serious and requiring treatment. This was announced on April 16 by Sergey Iskovskikh, a therapist and specialist in ultrasound diagnostics at the Orenburg Center for Molecular Diagnostics of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».

According to the expert, pain and discomfort in the navel area are often associated with digestive system problems.

"It can be gastroenteritis, an inflammation of the stomach and small intestine caused by viruses, bacteria, or malnutrition. In addition to pain, nausea, diarrhea, and weakness are possible. It may also indicate irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), a functional disorder in which cramps, bloating, and stool disorders occur without organic lesions," he warned.

Crohn's disease may be another ailment. The disease is an inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract at a chronic level. Cramping pains, weight loss, and diarrhea may also occur.

Also, problems in this area of the body may appear due to an umbilical infection, which may be the result of poor hygiene or appear after piercing.

"Sharp, intense pain in this area requires the exclusion of dangerous conditions. For example, with appendicitis, discomfort first appears in the umbilical area, then shifts down to the right, and increases with movement. The umbilical hernia injury is also accompanied by acute pain and requires urgent surgery," Iskovskikh said.

If you have severe, unbearable pain, fever, or other serious symptoms, you should seek medical help.
