Involuntary gnashing of teeth — bruxism — may indicate some health problems, including Parkinson's disease. This was announced on April 15 by Natalia Stepanenko, a pediatric neurologist at Meditsina JSC (Academician Roitberg Clinic), in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».

Symptoms of bruxism can include not only gnashing of teeth, but also headaches, signs of damage to teeth, and jaw pain. Ignoring this problem can lead to bite problems and tooth enamel erasure.

"The causes of Bruxism are diverse. Sometimes it is the result of stress and emotional overload, when a person unconsciously clenches his jaw tightly. This leads to hypertonia of the chewing muscles and gnashing of teeth. Other causes include diseases of the nervous system such as epilepsy or Parkinson's disease, traumatic brain injuries, as well as malocclusion or dental problems," the doctor said.

Gnashing of teeth, the most obvious sign of Bruxism, often manifests itself at night, so a person may not notice it. At the same time, relatives and relatives from the outside are able to notice this symptom. This phenomenon can also lead to dizziness, facial pain, and difficulty concentrating on anything.

"To make a diagnosis, you need to see a dentist or a neurologist. The doctor will examine the oral cavity and listen to the patient's complaints. In some cases, a Brooks checker is used for diagnosis, which the patient puts on at night. After sleep, the mouth guard is checked for damage, which allows the doctor to determine the degree of bruxism," Stepanenko said.

Depending on the causes and severity of the disease, the doctor will select the appropriate treatment method.

Earlier, on April 7, Artyom Baryshev, a neurologist and chiropractor at the SM Clinic, told Izvestia what the danger of morning jaw pain is. He explained that due to the habit of using only one side of the jaw for chewing, a joint may develop a disorder that eventually leads to chronic inflammation. A particular danger, according to the neurologist, is involuntary gnashing of teeth — bruxism, which causes the destruction of tooth enamel and a change in the position of teeth.

On April 6, dentist Aliev named products dangerous for teeth. Frequent consumption of liquid foods such as mashed potatoes, smoothies, and soft curds can lead to tooth loss. Aliev clarified: This is due to the fact that without physical exertion, the chewing muscles become flabby.
