In the process of updating utility networks, the period of summer shutdown of boiler houses is shortened. However, it is impractical to reduce the stoppage of hot water supply to apartments from the established 10 days to seven. Alexey Yeresko, Deputy head of the Ministry of Construction, told Izvestia about this in an interview.

"Previously, the hot water supply in Moscow stopped for three weeks, then for two, and now for 10 days," he said.

During these 10 days, in addition to routine maintenance, equipment is being upgraded, pipes are being crimped, and pipelines are being hydraulic tested with increased pressure. However, there are reasonable deadlines beyond which it is impractical to go, the deputy minister added.

"It is necessary to carry out routine maintenance on the networks, flush the filters in the central heating points, service boilers and other equipment. There are systems that are difficult to replace with backup equipment, for example, in coal—fired boilers," Yeresko said.

Therefore, it is not always wise to rush through routine maintenance.

According to the deputy minister, the measures carried out during preventive shutdowns allow not only to keep the heating and water supply systems in working order, but also significantly reduce the number of accidents in the autumn-winter period.
