The US State Department cancelled foreign aid totaling $215 million.

The U.S. Department of State has cancelled grants totaling $215 million to a number of countries. This was announced on Tuesday, April 15, by the United States Department of State Performance (DOGE).
"Secretary of State [Marco] Rubio continues to scrutinize the foreign aid of the State Department, 139 useless grants worth $215 million were canceled today," the agency wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
The project "Responding to disinformation through creative content in Belarus" lost its funding in the amount of $2.4 million.
The United Kingdom lost the largest support — the United States canceled funding for the $5.2 million Media Diversity project to combat disinformation.
Also among such countries were Uzbekistan ($2.5 million), Moldova ($2 million), Brazil ($1 million), Bulgaria ($1.7 million), Mauritania ($900 thousand), Lebanon ($750 thousand) and Tunisia ($740 thousand).
Earlier, on March 28, Rubio announced that the US State Department would reorganize the Agency for International Development (USAID) by July 1. According to the head of the department, USAID has long moved away from its original mission. He added that the country continues to implement vital programs and strategic investments that will strengthen partners and the United States itself.
