The White House named a condition for economic cooperation between Russia and the United States

Russia and the United States may establish relations and become economic partners in the future, provided there is a cease-fire in Ukraine. This was announced on April 15 by White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt at a briefing for journalists.

"Russia has an incentive to end this conflict, it can be an economic partnership with the United States. But first we want to see a cease—fire," she said.

At the same time, Leavitt stressed that US President Donald Trump, along with his special envoy Steven Witkoff, "made it clear."

On the same day, Witkoff announced that the United States was moving forward to conclude a deal with Russia to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, he held three meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Putin's meeting with Witkoff took place in St. Petersburg on April 11. It was clarified that the topic of the negotiations was aspects of the Ukrainian settlement. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, said before the start of the talks that the meeting between Putin and Witkoff was a good opportunity to convey to the American leader the point of view of the Russian side.
