It's Maundy Thursday before Easter: heartwarming postcards, funny pictures

The fourth day of Holy Week, Holy Thursday, is dedicated to the last supper of Christ with His disciples, the Last Supper, during which the sacrament of communion was established. This day is popularly called Maundy Thursday, as it is associated with liberation from sins. Izvestia has prepared touching postcards and funny pictures for the bright celebration.
Happy Clean Thursday: beautiful and heartfelt postcards
On the evening before the celebration of the Jewish Passover, Jesus gathered his disciples to spend the last hours of their earthly lives with them. The Son of God knew that he was going to die for the salvation of mankind. He also knew that one of the apostles, Judas Iscariot, was going to betray him for a small fee — only 30 pieces of silver.
According to ancient Jewish traditions, it was necessary to undergo a ritual ablution before a meal. This was usually done by servants, but this time Jesus himself washed his disciples' feet. The Apostle Paul, amazed by the Savior's actions, exclaimed, "Lord! Do you want to wash my feet?" To which Christ replied: "If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me." In this way, the Son of God not only expressed his love for his disciples, but also set an example of supreme humility.
During the Last Supper, another extremely important event took place. After pronouncing the blessing, Jesus broke bread and distributed it to the apostles, saying, "This is my Body." Then he filled a cup with wine and gave each disciple a drink from it, saying, "This is My Blood." This is how one of the most important Christian sacraments, communion, or the Eucharist, was established. In memory of this, many believers seek communion on Maundy Thursday.
The Holy Thursday evening service commemorates Christ's arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane, as well as his crucifixion and death. During this service, the reading of the "Twelve Passion Gospels" takes place — 12 excerpts from the Holy Scriptures. There is also an ablution ceremony in churches, during which the bishop washes the priests' feet, as the Savior did for the apostles.
In Russia, on Maundy Thursday, it was customary to wash with well water. This had to be done before dawn, preferably from silver dishes or from a container containing a small silver object (coin, jewelry, etc.).Preparations for Easter were also completed on this day.: they cleaned up the house, finished baking cakes and painting eggs.
Funny pictures of Maundy Thursday – 2025
One of the easiest ways to congratulate your loved ones on Maundy Thursday is to send them a postcard with warm wishes. You can easily find the desired image on the Internet or make it yourself in a free photo editor. As a rule, Jesus, the apostles and angels become the heroes of such pictures, but there are also more "secular" versions: with bathing children, animals, bath accessories, etc.
