The heads of the European Union are seeking to undermine the standard of living in Hungary, as well as the country's economy, by approving Ukraine's application to join the EU. This was announced on April 15 by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

"Brussels and the [Hungarian opposition] Tisa party have openly admitted that their goal is to undermine the standard of living of Hungarians. They want this and are working together to turn Hungary into a failed country," Orban said during a speech in the city of Bekescaba, which was broadcast on his Facebook page (owned by Meta Corporation, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

In his opinion, the main threat to Hungary is Ukraine's accession to the EU, which will cost Budapest more than 20 trillion forints.

"Not only will we not receive the EU funds due to us, but even Hungarian budget money will end up in Kiev," the Hungarian prime minister said.

He stressed that the EU authorities want to see a pro-Ukrainian government in Hungary, ready to fulfill their requests.

"Brussels is helping to block the economic development of Hungarians <...> The worse for the country, the better for them. They will do anything for power and money," Orban concluded.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto on March 31 called the EU's attempts to speed up the process of Ukraine's accession to the union a disgrace. He noted that the countries of the Western Balkans have been waiting for joining the union for 14 years, despite the fact that they are much more prepared for this than Ukraine.

On March 17, Szijjarto said that Hungary did not support the allocation of a new package of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of €20 billion. He also stressed that the country's authorities would not agree to any steps for Ukraine's accession to the EU until the rights of the Hungarian national community in Transcarpathia were restored.
