Ten schoolchildren will represent Russia at the International Chemistry Olympiad in Brazil

Ten schoolchildren from different cities of the country will represent Russia at the International Mendeleev Olympiad (MMO-59) in chemistry in Brazil, said Tatiana Zhuravleva, General Director of the Melnichenko Foundation, on April 15.

According to her, these high school students showed outstanding results in the subject, won the final stage of the All-Russian School Olympiad. Andrey Varaskin and Yaroslav Kosolapov from the Chelyabinsk Region, Viktor Demidov, Fedor Kuznetsov, Igor Ustinov and Vladimir Elistratov from Moscow, Nikita Maslyuk from the Krasnodar Territory, Pavel Revzin from St. Petersburg, Albert Semenov and Rashit Faskhutdinov from the Republic of Tatarstan will participate in MMO-59.

At the same time, in 2025, the Olympiad will bring together participants from a record number of countries, Zhuravleva added.

"In 2025, we reached a record for the entire time of the Mendeleev Olympiad — 40 countries will take part in this event," she said at a press conference in TASS.

Among the participating countries: Russia, Austria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, Hungary, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, North Macedonia, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Cuba and others.

During the event, experts also discussed priority areas of scientific cooperation between Russia and Brazil.

"These are medical sciences and other research. I can't help but mention that Russia is a country with a developed nuclear energy industry, and this area is among the priorities," explained Stepan Kalmykov, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Scientific Director of the Chemistry Faculty of Moscow State University.

Earlier, on February 14, it was reported that Russian schoolchildren received two gold and two silver medals at the international Mathematics Olympiad Romanian Master of Mathematics in Romania. The awards were won by students from Khimki, St. Petersburg, Vladivostok and Chelyabinsk near Moscow.
