- The political scientist explained Kallas' threats to EU representatives planning to visit Moscow on May 9.

The call by the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs, Kai Kallas, not to visit Moscow to participate in the Victory Day parade on May 9 suggests that there is "discord" between the countries of the union on this and other issues. Political analyst Fyodor Lukyanov told Izvestia about this on April 15.
He noted that the EU line, which is directly expressed by representatives of the European Commission, has not changed. It is aimed at boycotting, in fact isolating Russia on all issues, primarily political, but also diplomatic, he stressed.
"From this point of view, Kaya Callas did not say anything new. Non-participation in major political events in Russia is a position that is considered one of the pillars of the entire EU policy in the Ukrainian crisis. Something else is more interesting here. Repeat this position to her (Callas. I had to, because there is some discord within the European Union," Lukyanov said.
He recalled that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will visit Moscow to participate in celebrations marking the anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
A political scientist, he also noted the limited powers of Callas. Commenting on the possible "consequences" for EU politicians who visited Moscow, he doubted that the association would actually introduce any measures against them.
"There will be a propaganda campaign against them, but it is already underway," the expert stressed.
On April 14, Callas announced that the unification countries would not participate in the May 9 parade in Moscow. She also warned that European officials who travel to Russia to participate in the celebrations will face "consequences." The participation of EU candidate countries in the Victory Day Parade is also undesirable, she stressed.
The next day, State Duma deputy Vyacheslav Volodin said that the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs should be removed from office and brought to the UN International Tribunal for such statements.
