Cosmetologist gave tips on skin care in the warmer months

In summer, under the influence of the sun and high temperatures, the skin faces many challenges, so it is important to properly prepare it and adjust daily care, Natalia Mikhailova, a dermatovenerologist, cosmetologist, and creator of the MESALTERA by Dr. Mikhaylova brand of professional cosmeceuticals, told Izvestia on April 16.
"Summer care is noticeably different from winter care. If we use dense creams and oils in the cold season, then in the summer such products can lead to clogged pores. It is better to choose light emulsions, gel creams and serums that do not overload the skin. At the same time, regular hydration remains mandatory: maintaining water balance is one of the key tasks during the hot season," she explained.
According to her, the first thing you should pay attention to is cleansing. Due to the heat and increased activity of the sebaceous glands, the pores become dirty faster, which can lead to inflammation and acne.
"Use mild cleansers: foams, gels or mousses with added acids or enzymes. They effectively dissolve sebum and impurities without damaging the skin. Avoid aggressive formulations and excessive mechanical peeling — sun—warmed skin is already stressed," Mikhailova noted.
The expert clarified that in order to get an even, beautiful tan and not harm the skin, you should sunbathe gradually, choosing safe hours — before 11:00 and after 16:00. After sunbathing, you need to use soothing lotions with antioxidants and vitamin E: they help restore the skin and consolidate the effect of tanning.
"The value of SPF in summer cannot be overestimated. Properly selected sunscreen protects not only from burns, but also from photoaging and pigmentation. Regardless of your skin type, choose creams with an SPF 50 protection level, and refresh them every two hours in the open sun and after bathing," the cosmetologist added.
The dermatovenerologist suggested paying attention to the composition: in addition to filters, the cream should contain antioxidants and amino acids that protect the skin from damage, moisturize it and support the production of collagen. Mulberry and bearberry extracts enhance protection and prevent pigmentation.
"When dark spots or sunburn appear, vitamin C and niacinamide products will help, while products with panthenol and aloe vera will relieve inflammation and accelerate skin regeneration. It is better to avoid active sun until full recovery," the doctor said.
In addition, in summer, the skin especially needs antioxidants: vitamins C, E and A protect it from the aggressive effects of ultraviolet radiation. The expert recommended including fresh berries, fruits and vegetables rich in carotenoids in the diet: carrots, pumpkin, sweet peppers, apricots, sea buckthorn, persimmons, greens. However, you should be careful with vitamin D supplements — it is already actively synthesized in the sun.
"In hot weather, the body loses more moisture, and dehydrated skin becomes less elastic and more prone to irritation. Drink enough water, and add green tea or water with lemon to your diet — this will help not only maintain hydration, but also eliminate toxins," Mikhailova said.
At the same time, dermatological diseases such as acne, rosacea and dermatitis often worsen in summer. To avoid complications, you should wear loose clothing made of natural fabrics, avoid prolonged exposure to wet clothes, and choose hypoallergenic products.
Speaking of decorative cosmetics, the doctor advised to give preference to BB creams or light foundation with SPF. Water-resistant formulas will help keep makeup in perfect condition. You also need to keep your brushes and sponges clean — in hot weather, bacteria multiply especially actively.
Earlier, on April 15, Anastasia Likhoshurst, a technologist and developer of the cosmetics brand Arabia Laboratories, told Izvestia that the active sun can seriously damage hair in spring and summer. She recommended using a sunscreen spray for hair with UV filters, it creates a protective barrier against UV rays. Care products should be chosen with keratin, collagen and oil in the formulations.
