The city of Kursk has been subjected to a massive attack by Ukrainian drones. One woman was killed and nine other people were injured. Several multi-storey buildings were damaged, and a fire broke out in three of them. The Russian Defense Ministry reported the destruction of more than 100 UAVs in the Kursk region. What is known about the attack

On the night of April 15, Kursk was subjected to a massive attack by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from Ukraine. The impact fell on residential areas of the regional center. As a result of the attack, a woman born in 1940 was killed, nine other people were also injured, six of them were hospitalized. They received shrapnel wounds, traumatic brain injuries and burns.

• One of the drones damaged an apartment building on Zavodskaya Street. A fire broke out in it, engulfing the eighth and ninth floors. Firefighters managed to localize it, residents were evacuated to temporary accommodation in schools, and education was transferred to a remote format.

• Fires also broke out in residential buildings on Orlovskaya and Veszpremskaya streets. Striking elements in the form of metal balls were found at the site of the latter after the drone attack. In total, 24 apartment buildings and three more private households were damaged.

• One of the targets of the attack was the ambulance garage. 11 cars were damaged in it. The station continues to operate. In total, 20 cars were attacked in Kursk.

• Due to the drone attack, about 1,000 household consumers in the Kursk Railway District were left without electricity. For safety reasons, the electricity supply in the damaged multi-storey buildings was cut off. 40 power engineers are working to eliminate the consequences of the attack.

What do law enforcement agencies say?

• The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported the destruction and interception of 115 Ukrainian UAVs over the past night. 109 of them were shot down in the Kursk region, three more in the Voronezh region and one each in the Moscow region, Bryansk and Oryol regions.

• The Main Military Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has opened a criminal case on a terrorist act (paragraph "b" of Part 3 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) on the fact of a massive attack on Kursk. Military investigators found fragments of aircraft and striking elements, which were filled with explosive devices to cause maximum damage to civilians and infrastructure facilities.

• The Prosecutor's Office of the Kursk region has taken control of the observance of the rights of victims and the provision of comprehensive assistance to them. City district prosecutors personally monitor the situation on the ground.

How the authorities react

• Alexander Khinshtein, acting Governor of the Kursk region, called the nighttime strike by Ukrainian drones on Kursk an unprecedented crime in its brutality. He noted that the evacuated residents of the city will receive food and assistance, and also promised to provide them with payments.

• Rodion Miroshnik, the Russian Foreign Ministry's Ambassador-at-large for crimes committed by the Kiev regime, called the incident in Kursk a cynical act that demonstrates the true goals and intentions of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. The diplomat pointed out that the massive attack took place against the background of Kiev's statements about the desire for peace.
