Sales of most types of alcoholic beverages in Russia decreased in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year. This was reported on April 14 by the Interfax news agency, citing data from Rosalokoltabakcontrol.
In particular, vodka was sold 7.2% less from January to March than in 2024, cognac — 12.6% less. The overall drop in alcoholic beverages was 4.4%.
In the wine sector, in turn, 2% fewer grape wines were sold, sparkling drinks sales decreased by 4.9% and liqueur wines by 8.8%. The sector of low-alcohol beverages showed a sharp drop of 9.3 times.
Total sales of alcoholic beverages (excluding beer, cider, poiret and mead) for the first quarter of 2025 amounted to 48.9 million decaliters, which is 14.7% less than in the same period last year.
Earlier, on March 3, State Duma deputy Andrei Svintsov announced that he had submitted a bill banning the sale of alcohol on Sundays. In his message, he noted that the last day of the week should be devoted to spending time with family, playing sports or going to cultural institutions, as well as preparing for the start of the working week.
