In Kemerovo, the investigative authorities have repeatedly filed a petition to the Central District Court for the arrest of men who had held nine people in slavery for 13 years, the regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation reported on April 15.

It is noted that after the Novokuznetsk court refused to arrest the persons named by the investigation on April 11, choosing for them a preventive measure in the form of a ban on certain actions, new episodes of crimes were revealed.

"During the preliminary investigation against three local residents accused of illegally imprisoning people and using slave labor, new episodes of illegal activities of the defendants have been revealed. <...> It has been previously established that the defendants committed the abduction of three people. One of them systematically used physical force against a woman," the department's Telegram channel says.

Depending on the role of each of them, the men are charged with crimes under paragraphs "d" of Part 2 of Article 117 of the Criminal Code ("Torture") and three episodes under paragraphs "a, b, g, g, z" of part 2 of Article 126 of the Criminal Code ("Kidnapping"). Criminal cases are connected with a previously initiated criminal case. Taking into account the identification of new episodes, as well as on behalf of the chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, the regional Investigative Committee sent a second request for the detention of the accused, the department noted.

On April 11, it was reported that three residents of the Kemerovo region were detained for the illegal detention and use of slave labor of nine people. It was noted that from 2012 to April 2025, the defendants held people in the basement of a garage in the backyard of one of the houses. Three Novokuznetsk residents between the ages of 24 and 48 were brought to justice. The incident became known after one of the women escaped from prison and told about the incident. A criminal case was initiated under clauses "a" and "g" of Part 2 of Article 127 of the Criminal Code ("Unlawful imprisonment") and clauses "a" and "d" of Part 2 of Article 127.2 of the Criminal Code ("Use of slave labor").
