The Ministry of Defense has published declassified documents of the Vienna WWII operation

On April 15, the Russian Ministry of Defense published declassified documents of the Great Patriotic War on the Vienna Strategic Offensive Operation of 1945.

The declassified materials included, for example, a combat report from the headquarters of the 3rd Ukrainian Front dated March 22, 1945 on the capture of the city of Szekesfehervar.

The key objective of the operation was the liberation of Austria and its capital, Vienna— from the forces of Nazi Germany.

"The publication of declassified documents from the funds of the Central Archive of the Russian Ministry of Defense, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the completion of the Vienna Strategic Offensive Operation, is aimed at protecting historical truth, countering the falsification of history, and glorifying the heroic feat of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War," the Defense Ministry said.

On November 23, 2024, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation declassified documents for the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Moonsund archipelago. At the time of the start of the operation, the situation in the Baltic States was difficult. In the autumn of 1944, Soviet troops continued their offensive after the successful completion of the Tallinn offensive, which ended with the capture of the capital of Estonia. The Red Army sought to expand its positions in the Baltic Sea in order to create a springboard for further action.
