Now 73 forest fires are being extinguished in Russia on an area of about 75.8 thousand hectares, Deputy Head of the Federal Forestry Agency Alexei Venglinsky told Izvestia. A year ago, on the same dates, according to the data of the Air Forestry Service, eight forest fires were extinguished in four regions. The special firefighting regime was in effect only in 16 subjects, and the state of emergency - in the Jewish Autonomous Region.

A high class of fire danger in forests is predicted this week in several regions of the country, the scientific head of the Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand told Izvestia.

Very hot weather for April is forecast for the European territory of the country, he reminded.

So far, he said, there are no regions in the European part of the country where a high or emergency class of fire danger is predicted in the coming days, the expert added.

"A high class of fire danger in forests is predicted in the Altai region. This is due to the fact that the temperature there has been very high for the last few days. In some areas it exceeded 30 degrees. July temperature in the first half of April," he said.

However, as early as Thursday-Friday this week, the temperature will drop and the fire danger class there will decrease.

High temperatures and lack of precipitation are also predicted in the Trans-Baikal Territory, according to the meteorologist. Lowering of temperature there is expected only in the second half of the week.

"High fire danger class will be up to and including April 18 in continental areas of Primorsky Krai," Vilfand explained.
