- There is a risk of losing up to 40% of the fruit crop in southern Russia due to frosts

Frosts that arrived in the southern and central regions of Russia after April 12 may destroy up to 40% of the fruit tree crop. In particular, we are talking about the Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, Crimea, Bryansk Region and some other subjects. This was told to "Izvestia" by agrarians in these regions.
"Based on the information we received from gardeners, we are talking about losses of stone fruit crops up to 40%. At the same time in some areas died, for example, up to 100% of the apricot crop," - said "Izvestia" the head of the Union of gardeners of Russia in the Republic of Crimea Tatiana Oleinik.
According to her, the frosts were unexpected and lasted in the republic for almost a week, with temperatures reaching -4 ℃ for three or four days in a row.
Olga Bondareva, head of the Bryansk regional branch of the Union of Gardeners, agrees with this assessment.
"Frosts in our region very seriously damaged the harvest of fruit trees. All the buds, which had time to blossom, have already been beaten by frost. These are, first of all, apple, cherry and pear trees. Therefore, the losses will be no less than in Crimea," she explained in a conversation with Izvestia.
Another subject that suffered from bad weather was the Krasnodar region, where in recent days the temperature in some areas fell to -6 ℃.
"The fact that there will be crop losses after such a cold snap is clear even to a person far from agriculture. Frosts during the growing season and flowering gardens, of course, have a negative impact," - said the chairman of the Association of peasant (farm) farms of Krasnodar region Alexander Shipulin.
