The European Union discussed the restoration of Gaza without the resettlement of Palestinians

The Foreign Ministers of the European Union (EU) discussed the need to rebuild the Gaza Strip without resettling its residents at a meeting in Luxembourg. This was announced on April 14 by the Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in the Government of the Palestinian National Authority (PA), Mohammed Mustafa.

"We also discussed the urgent need to rebuild Gaza without evicting its residents, and this is very important," he said during a press conference broadcast on the Associated Press (AP) YouTube channel.

In addition, Mustafa called the meeting with EU ministers "the first ever high-level dialogue." According to him, the PA is currently establishing a strategic partnership with the European Union.

European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Shuica, in turn, said that the European Commission's (EC) program is aimed at supporting the Palestinian people in building a sustainable future.

"It's about creating jobs and promoting long-term social and economic stability. A well—functioning and reformed Palestinian Authority must play a central role in the post-conflict governance of Gaza," Shuica said.

Earlier in the day, the EC developed a €1.6 billion assistance program for the PA. The funds will be allocated to finance the service sector, restore and stabilize the situation in the West Bank, and support the private sector. The multi-year comprehensive program is designed for 2025-2027.

On February 5, US President Donald Trump said on February 4 that it was better to resettle refugees from the Gaza Strip to more livable places in Egypt or Jordan. According to him, these are two countries that have repeatedly rejected the idea of accepting large numbers of Palestinian refugees, or to "other places" that "can be very beautiful, safe and pleasant."
