The death toll from the collapse of the roof of a club in the Dominican Republic has increased to 231 people. This was reported on April 14 by the newspaper Listin Diario.

"To date, we have confirmed the death toll from the incident, which now stands at 231 people," the newspaper quoted Interior Minister Farideh Rafoul as saying.

According to the newspaper, 221 people were found dead at the scene, 10 more died in hospital. 189 people remained alive, 155 of them were hospitalized.

In addition, Diario Libre reported that the prosecutor's office is conducting a criminal investigation to determine the causes of the roof collapse. The work is being carried out in coordination with other government agencies, the newspaper notes.

The roof of the Jet Set nightclub collapsed in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic on April 8 during a party by merengue performer Rubby Perez. As the Russian embassy in the country informed Izvestia on April 9, there were no foreign citizens among the dead.

On April 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, in connection with the victims of the collapse of a building in Santo Domingo.
