Palm of fidelity: Tsyganov is back on the podium of the box office

Ilya Uchitel's film "Batya 2. The Grandfather, starring Evgeny Tsyganov, continues to lead the Russian box office. His box office receipts exceeded one billion. The film with the participation of the Zveri group "Everything that concerns you" did not meet the expectations of critics, while according to the results of the weekend it took the second place in the table. Palm 2 is not losing ground either. Izvestia summarizes the preliminary results of the national box office over the past weekend.
The "Palm" is not the first
Last weekend's Russian film collections did not show unexpected results. The first line is held by Ilya Uchitel's film "Batya 2. Grandfather." The main role in it was played by Evgeny Tsyganov. The film grossed 350.1 million rubles at the box office over the past weekend, and more than a billion since its premiere. "Father 2. Grandfather" may become the highest-grossing project in Ilya Uchitel's career so far. The director's previous work, the film "The Flying Ship", also earned him a billion. Only it was possible to reach this mark in forty days, and "Father 2. The Grandfather" has been in the box office only since April 3 and has not yet lost ground. The turnout for the new project is still high — 24 people per session. According to Olga Zinyakova, president of the KARO cinema chain, the new part of Bati will continue to be in demand among viewers even after the upcoming release of other high-profile novelties.
— "Father 2" collected double the box office of the original film. The comedy is running on such a good sundress that neither "Kraken" with Alexander Petrov nor "Deniskin's Stories" will cancel interest in him, he has every chance to enter the top 40 highest-grossing films in Russia," Olga Zinyakova told Izvestia. — Although, definitely, over time it will drop a couple of lines lower.
The film with the participation of the group "Zveri" called "Everything that concerns you" was released on wide screens last Thursday, April 10. Long before the premiere, experts and film critics declared that the film would be a success. However, on one condition — the fan base of rockers should be active and rush to cinemas for little-known facts about idols. However, as the EAIS data shows, Roma's fans have failed the Beast. Over the past weekend, the film "Everything that concerns you" collected 32.6 million rubles, which is ten times less than the superhit "Father 2. Grandfather." I was also not impressed by the turnout — only six people attended the session.
— The audience likes to be nostalgic for musical films about the phenomena of the 90s and early 2000s. Vivid examples are "Hands Up!" and "Poplar Fluff" — these are light comedies with music by your favorite bands. "Everything that concerns you" continues this tradition. The novelty will not reach a billion, but it will repeat the result of Poplar Fluff," Olga Zinyakova explained to Izvestia. — The results could have been more striking, but still it's not easy to compete with the sequel to "Baty". Plus, the issue of piracy is still acute: many cinemas are actively promoting screenings of Minecraft in the cinema and have given it sessions, leaving "Everything that concerns you" no chance to collect a fair box office.
Maria Shcherbal, CEO of WantaGroup, a film consulting company, sees the reason for the low attendance of the film "Everything that Concerns You" in another way. She believes that the project had insufficient information support.
— The film was not at the top of the expectations rating, in the pre-premiere week it did not even get into the rating because there was not so much information about it. Bati 2 had strong information support, including television. We mostly found out about "Everything that concerns you" on the Internet and reviews from friends, and applications also worked, Maria Shcherbal is sure. — All the channels that were supposed to reach a narrow fan audience have worked. But even with all this, it's impossible to compare a niche movie with a massive family movie that had TV support.
Roma the Beast seemed to follow in the footsteps of Sergei Zhukov, who in the fall of 2024 presented a biopic about "Hands up!" to the audience. The project did not show sky—high figures at that time - 968 million rubles for the entire rental period.
At the same time, in the first weekend, "Hands up!" earned 225 million.
"Palm 2" takes the third place according to the results of last weekend. More than three weeks have passed since the premiere of the film, and the audience's interest in it still does not fade. The family adventure blockbuster grossed almost half a billion rubles at the box office, 31.8 of which was last weekend. On average, 16 people came to the session (according to the EAIS). "Palm Tree 2" was directed by Vladimir Kondaurov. The key roles in it were played by Viktor Dobronravov, Leonid Basov, Valery Fedorovich, Vladimir Ilyin, Sergey Gilev, Evgenia Dmitrieva. In the center of the plot is the continuation of the story of the beloved Palm shepherd.
The "Master" without Margarita
According to the results of last weekend, "The Master" with Jason Statham in the title role left not far from "Palma 2", placing in fourth place. The action earned director David Eyre, who previously directed Suicide Squad and Fury, 32 million rubles. Dmitry Suvorov's "Zhdun" is in fifth place. The family comedy starring Viktor Khorinyak, Yulia Alexandrova, Vladislav Vetrov and Nikita Tarasov was released on March 20 and brought in $27 million. In total, since the premiere date, "Zhdun" has earned 341 million at the Russian box office. So far, it is among the top 10 highest-grossing films of this year in Russia. The film tells about the adventures of a popular character in popular culture and the hero of countless Internet memes. In addition to popular stars, young actors Andrei Andreev and Margarita Silaeva can be seen in it.
The total attendance of cinemas in Russia last weekend dropped by 300 thousand people compared to the previous one.
— This is not just a matter of this weekend, but a trend that has already emerged at the end of 2024. There will be no changes until the repertoire is evenly filled with high—quality novelties interesting to different audiences," said the president of the KARO cinema chain. — We see this in examples when at least a couple of major films are on the weekend. It enlivens the rental. When just one major genre release drags the entire weekend, the rest of the audience sincerely thinks that there is nothing else, although the clearing may be sown with smaller releases where there are no bright marketing campaigns.
The upcoming weekend will delight the audience with new products. The aforementioned "Kraken" starring Alexander Petrov will be released on wide screens on April 17. The premieres of the films "Mother-in-law on a spree", "How to reform a Dragon" and "Mountain Bride" are scheduled for the same date.
