A criminal case has been opened in Yelets (Lipetsk region) over the death of a 21-year-old girl when a domestic passenger car overturned. The regional Ministry of Internal Affairs reports this on its page on the VKontakte social network.
The accident occurred late on Saturday evening, April 12, on Kommunarov Street. According to police, the 21-year-old driver of the VAZ-2114 lost control, as a result of which the car crashed into a light pole in the area of house No. 125.
According to GOROD48, a 20-year-old passenger in the car suffered a spinal fracture, and the motorist herself was also injured. Another passenger, a 21-year-old girl, died on the spot.
A criminal case has been opened into the incident under Part 3 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Violation of traffic rules that negligently caused the death of a person." A number of examinations have been appointed, and all the circumstances of the fatal accident are being established.
Earlier in the day, the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Russian Interior Ministry told Izvestia that 496 road accidents had occurred on the country's roads over the past weekend, killing 52 and injuring 615 people. 38 of the dead were passengers and drivers.
