The United States has made great progress in trade negotiations with the European Union (EU) countries. This was announced on April 14 by Kevin Hassett, director of the White House National Economic Council.

"There have been many discussions with the EU. I and the rest of the sales team have held several meetings, and we have made tremendous progress," he said in an interview with Fox Business.

Hassett stressed that a possible trade agreement with the EU would be beneficial for working citizens of the United States, "especially for employees of the automotive industry."

Earlier in the day, Reuters reported that China wants to team up with other countries to fight U.S. tariffs. In particular, China is negotiating with the EU.

On April 11, the Politico newspaper reported on the concerns of the leaders of the European Union countries that the import duties imposed by the United States would widen the gap in the welfare of the union states. The publication added that Spanish Finance Minister Carlos Cuerpo proposed using the proceeds from retaliatory European duties on American goods to offset the costs of enterprises throughout the association.
