The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs, Kaya Kallas, said that the participation of the union countries in the May 9 parade in Moscow is not planned. She said this at a press conference following the meeting of the EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg.

"At the ministerial meeting, it was very clearly stated by various member states that any participation in the parade or celebrations on the occasion of May 9 in Moscow would most likely not be from the European side," she stressed.

Callas also said that European officials who travel to Moscow on May 9 will face "consequences." She clarified that the participation of EU candidate countries in the Victory Day Parade is also undesirable. According to her, the warning has been brought to these states.

On April 5, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the expulsion of Russia and Belarus from celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory in World War II in Germany was a blatant insult. Earlier, the German Foreign Ministry reported that representatives of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus may not be allowed to attend celebrations dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory.

On March 30, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called for a tough fight against the rewriting of history by the European Union (EU) countries. He stressed that in some EU states, the criminals convicted by the Nuremberg Tribunal are being equalized with those who liberated Europe from fascism.
