Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier sentenced to 16 years for obstructing evacuation in Kursk region

A soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), who prevented the evacuation of civilians from the Korenevsky district of the Kursk region, was sentenced to 16 years in prison. This was announced on Monday, April 14, by the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation.

"The evidence collected by the military investigative bodies of the Investigative Committee of Russia has been recognized by the court as sufficient to convict a soldier of the 22nd separate mechanized brigade of the All-Russian Military Academy (armed formations of Ukraine. — Ed.) by Alexander Panov. He was found guilty of committing a terrorist act in the Kursk region," the agency said in a statement on its Telegram channel.

It was established that the militant illegally entered Russian territory in September 2024. While in the village of Korenevo in the Korenevsky district, he mined roads and prevented the evacuation of the civilian population, threatening to use weapons.

Panov was detained by soldiers of the Russian Armed Forces on September 13 of the same year. The court sentenced him to 16 years in prison, serving the first 5 years in prison, and the rest of the time in a high—security penal colony.
