The third day of Holy Week is dedicated to the last days spent by Jesus surrounded by His disciples. At this time, two opposite events occurred: the anointing of the Savior with myrrh and the betrayal of Judas Iscariot. Izvestia shares postcards and greetings in prose with the Great Wednesday.

Holy Wednesday 2025: beautiful pictures, Orthodox postcards

The services of Holy Wednesday are dedicated to two people who were with Christ shortly before his sufferings on the cross. The gospels say that just a few days before his execution, Jesus visited the home of Simon the leper in Bethany. During the meal, a woman known for her lecherous lifestyle entered the room. Falling on her knees before the Savior, she washed his feet with myrrh and wiped them with her own hair. The disciples who witnessed this scene were outraged by the presence of the sinner and the waste of precious aromatic oil. However, the Son of God stopped them, saying that in this way the woman was preparing him for burial.

Evangelicals disagree on the details of this story. John reports that all this did not happen at Simon's, but in Lazarus' house, and the girl who anointed Christ's feet with myrrh was the righteous man's sister Mary. Matthew and Mark do not mention the woman's name, but specify that she poured myrrh on Jesus' head. Luke points out that the woman who committed this act was a sinner and shed not only myrrh, but also bitter tears of repentance.

Whatever it was, the unknown woman's act is interpreted as a manifestation of a person's sincere gratitude to God. Even more important to her is the fact that there was not much time left before the Savior's terrible execution on the cross, but the nameless sinner nevertheless managed to say the last "thank you" for herself and for other lost ones.

The opposite of this woman is Judas Iscariot. While she showed generosity and repentance, a close friend and disciple of Christ goes to the Jerusalem elders to betray him. He will receive 30 pieces of silver for his crime, but this money will bring him neither satisfaction nor peace.

Themed postcards will help you congratulate your acquaintances, friends and relatives on the Great Environment. You can send them via messenger or post them on your social media page. As a rule, they depict a woman who anointed the feet of Christ with myrrh, as well as the Savior himself.

What to wish on Holy Wednesday of Holy Week in your own words

It will be appropriate to add congratulations and warm wishes to postcards and pictures with the Great Wednesday. Here are some examples:
