- The expert compared rallies in support of Vucic and anti-government protests in Serbia.

The rallies in support of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic that took place in Belgrade last week were large-scale, but they lost out in emotional intensity to student protests. Alexander Khazaridi, an expert at the Polylogue Group, told Izvestia about this on April 14.
"The rallies looked large in form, both in terms of the number of participants and organizational efforts, including media support. However, the emotional intensity of the rallies is inferior to the recent student protests, which were spontaneous and more chaotic," he said.
The expert stressed that Vucic remains one of the few Balkan leaders capable of maintaining a political balance between East and West, while maintaining relative stability in the country in difficult geopolitical conditions.
"His supporters value consistency, experience in international negotiations and the ability to ensure Serbia's investment attractiveness despite external pressure. For many voters, he is still associated with the guarantee of order, predictability and a sovereign course - values that are especially important in the turbulent Balkan region," Khazaridi concluded.
According to Reuters, thousands of people took to the streets of Belgrade from April 11 to 13 in the Serbian capital to take part in rallies organized in support of Vucic. It was clarified that the action was considered as the authorities' response to the large-scale anti-government demonstrations that began in the republic after the events of November 2024, when 15 people died as a result of the collapse of the canopy of the railway station in Novi Sad. Most of the participants in the protests were students. After the tragedy, Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesic and several other politicians resigned.
Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Vulin said on March 8 that the West was using protests by students and opposition figures in Serbia to further pit Belgrade against Moscow. Later, the politician thanked the Russian Federation for non-interference in the country's internal politics.
