Russians began to plan the birth of children later

Children are a good motivator for personal achievement, especially for young people with high incomes. The average age when Russians are ready to have children is 32 years old, and the key incentives for family expansion are career and stability in the economy. This is stated in a study by the VSK Insurance House company, which was reviewed by Izvestia on April 14.
According to the study, the majority of modern Russian youth believe that children do not interfere with self-realization at all, but rather motivate it. This is the opinion of 34% of respondents. This answer is especially often given by the more "aged" group of young people (25-34 years old) (42.5% in this age category), as well as high-income Russians (46.5%).
In addition, women are more likely than men to believe that having children will be an incentive for their self-development (37.5% versus 30%). The largest proportion of young people who believe that children can hinder career and personal growth is observed among men (36% of respondents chose this answer option), low-income people (60% in this category) and residents of St. Petersburg (47% of young respondents in the region).
Over the past year, the average age at which young Russians plan to become parents has increased from 30 years old last year to 32 years old in 2025. This trend is observed in all age, gender, and social groups. In general, the majority of young people plan to expand their families between the ages of 25-34, as reported by almost 54% of respondents (51% a year earlier). A striking trend in 2025 is the reduction in the number of Russians intending to become parents before the age of 24: their share decreased from 13% last year to 4% in 2025.
The key factors encouraging Russians to have children are stable jobs (39% of respondents), the absence of economic problems (36%), housing (acquired with a mortgage or their own savings — 31%) and a successful career (25%). Interestingly, for men, the career aspect is more important, while for women, the stability of the economy is more important.
Among residents of large cities, the largest number of those who plan to have a child under the age of 24 is in the Omsk region (more than 60%). While residents of Tatarstan (40% of respondents), Rostov-on-Don and Voronezh (33% each) intend to become parents no earlier than 35-44 years old.
Earlier, on February 8, psychologist Stanislav Sambursky named the reason for the difficult birth of children in the Russian Federation. According to him, young couples are most often afraid of changes, they understand that after the birth of a child "it won't be like before." They will have new responsibilities and responsibilities for a new life.
