China has moved from trying to reach an agreement on the abolition of duties with the United States to plans to convince other countries to oppose the new trade tariffs imposed by President of the United States Donald Trump. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on April 14, citing sources.

"Beijing's diplomats interacted with other governments targeted by Trump's tariffs, including sending letters asking for cooperation to several countries <...> Contacts were established with long—time U.S. allies in Europe, Japan and South Korea," the publication says.

In addition, Reuters reported that employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China were ordered to cancel vacations and stay in touch around the clock as part of strengthening the development of retaliatory measures to the introduction of additional duties by the United States.

Earlier in the day, Maxim Chirkov, associate professor of the Department of Economic Policy and Economic Measurements at GUU, told Izvestia that Washington's trade war with Beijing could turn into a failure for the American economy. According to him, China's economy already surpasses the American one in terms of purchasing power parity by 30%.

On April 13, The Washington Post predicted the economic collapse of the United States and China due to the escalation of the trade war. It is clarified that this confrontation increases the risk of massive economic consequences and an escalation of the conflict between Washington and Beijing.
