The former head of AVTOVAZ assessed the potential of the Russian car market
The Russian automobile market, which totaled 1.57 million passenger cars last year, has the potential to grow to 3 million per year. This was stated on April 14 by the former head of AVTOVAZ, Bo Andersson, at the convention of the Association of Russian Automobile Dealers (ROAD), the Izvestia correspondent reports.
"I predict that about 1.5 million cars will be produced and sold in Russia. However, the Russian car market has a potential of 3 million vehicles," said Andersson.
Production in the automotive industry should be localized: the events after 2022 have shown that Russia can independently create production of any type, said the former head of AvtoVAZ.
"I am convinced that the Russian consumer should not be deprived of the opportunity to purchase the most interesting and modern cars with good quality and competitive cost of ownership...> Russia cannot allow a repeat of the situation where suppliers hold power and can simply reduce or stop production," Andersson stressed.
Previously, Bo Andersson was the head of the Gorky Automobile Plant (2009-2013), and from 2013 to 2016 he was the president of AvtoVAZ. Speaking at the conference, the top manager noted that he was proud of the period of his work in the Russian automotive industry.
On February 12, it was reported that, as stated by Bo Andersson, car brands from Europe, the United States, South Korea and Japan have not lost interest in the Russian car market and will eventually return to the country.
On December 27, 2024, it became known that Bo Andersson, who had served as CEO of the national Uzbek automaker UzAuto Motors since 2021, was leaving the company due to the completion of all tasks and the completion of the contract.
