Hungary opposes sending EU military advisers to Ukraine

Hungary does not support the proposal of the European Union (EU) to transfer the mission for the training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to the territory of the country and send military advisers there. This was announced on April 14 by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto after a meeting in Luxembourg with colleagues from EU countries.
"EU military instructors should not conduct training programs for Ukrainian soldiers on the territory of Ukraine, because this would entail a serious risk of escalation of the war towards Europe. This is a red line for us. None of the elements of this military training mission should be on Ukrainian territory," the Foreign Minister said, broadcasting the speech on his Facebook page (owned by Meta Corporation, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
Szijjarto added that the EU intends to start full negotiations with Ukraine on its accession to the European Union this year. The minister stressed that Hungary's economy should not be destroyed due to Kiev's "forcibly rapid" entry into the union.
Szijjarto said on April 4 that strengthening the EU's defense potential should not lead to a hidden increase in military aid to Kiev. He noted that the claim that Ukraine allegedly protects Europe is not true.
Earlier, on March 31, the Hungarian Foreign Minister called the EU's attempts to speed up the process of Ukraine's accession to the union a disgrace. According to the minister, the countries of the Western Balkans are much more suitable for this.
