The Moscow Transport Museum has completed the restoration of the ambulance "RAF-22031-01", which was produced in 1988 at the Riga Bus Factory. The museum's press service announced this on April 14.

Such a car was produced on the basis of the RAF-2203 Latvia minibus, which, in turn, was produced on GAZ-24 Volga units. The first ambulance "RAF-22031" rolled off the assembly line in 1977. In total, more than 200 thousand cars of this model were produced. This model became one of the most recognizable on the roads of the capital in the 80s, said Maxim Liksutov, Moscow's Deputy Mayor for Transport and Industry.

The exhibit entered the museum's collection in 2022 from a private collection. Two donor bodies were used to restore the RAF-22031-01. There were not enough details, so the side panels of the body, the rear and front arches, as well as the interior details were re-produced according to the drawings. They decided to leave some details of the car's interior unrepaired, with traces of time.

Also, the car was returned to its original color according to GOST 1975: color stripes on the sides, signs and inscriptions. After the restoration, the ambulance will take its place in the permanent exhibition of the Metropolitan Museum of Transport.

On March 24, it was reported that the Moscow Transport Museum had restored the 1954 GAZ-M20 Pobeda automobile. This is the first taxi model to be mass-produced in the post-war period.

On March 19, it became known that Russia's first unmanned electric bus, MatrEshka, was sent to the Metropolitan Museum of Transport. The prototype, designed to carry eight passengers, was released in 2016, but never entered mass production.
