The talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the US President's special envoy for the Middle East, Stephen Witkoff, have become an effective contact between the two countries. This was announced on April 14 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

"Such contacts are extremely useful and very effective. They are effective due to the fact that there is actually a very popular channel for communicating information to each other," he said at a briefing.

Peskov stressed that thanks to these negotiations, a channel has been formed through which the presidents of Russia and the United States can exchange information. The Kremlin's official representative added that Putin's meeting with US President Donald Trump was not discussed in substantive terms.

"The issues under discussion are very, very complex, so it would hardly be justified to wait for any immediate results. The work continues," Peskov said.

The Russian president's meeting with Witkoff took place in St. Petersburg on April 11. It lasted more than four hours. The Kremlin clarified that the topic of the talks was aspects of the Ukrainian settlement.
