There were 496 road accidents in Russia over the weekend.

Over the past weekend, 496 road accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 52 people were killed and 615 injured. 38 of the dead were passengers and drivers. This was reported to Izvestia on April 14 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
For example, in Karachay-Cherkessia, on a regional highway, a passenger car driver drove into the oncoming lane, where he collided with two other cars in turn. The culprit of the car accident was hospitalized with injuries, the driver and two passengers from the second car, whom he collided with, were sent for outpatient treatment after medical treatment.
As a result of 122 road accidents, 37 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 85 outside their area of operation, 14 pedestrians were killed, and 118 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 19 child pedestrians, 14 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated areas.
In the Nizhny Novgorod region, at night on 341 km of the Shopsha — Ivanovo—Nizhny Novgorod highway, a 22-year-old driver from Tajikistan, who was driving a car in a state of drug intoxication, drove into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place and hit a group of pedestrians (they were moving along the left side of the road in the direction of the violator). After hitting people, the car of the culprit of the accident left the road and overturned. All seven pedestrians were injured in the incident: four were hospitalized, and three more were sent for outpatient treatment.
20 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which there were no fatalities, but 24 road users, including two child passengers, required medical assistance. The reason for eight bus accidents was traffic violations by their drivers. In addition, 72 accidents involving minors were registered over the weekend, as a result of which 79 young road users were injured, including 45 passengers, seven cyclists and six motor transport drivers. A minor driver and a passenger were killed in one vehicle.
In the Stavropol Territory, on 54 km of the Svetlograd — Blagodarny — Budennovsk highway of regional significance, a 15-year-old driver, driving a car without a driver's license at night, drove off the road, followed by overturning and hitting a tree. As a result of the accident, both the perpetrator of the incident and his 14-year-old passenger, who was in the front seat and was not wearing a seat belt, died. Two more passengers, including the same age as the deceased schoolgirl, ended up in the hospital. The injured teenager was in the back row of seats and was also not wearing a seat belt.
"The State Traffic Inspectorate urges parents to strictly monitor and stop attempts by children and teenagers to get behind the wheel on their own, as well as to exclude for them the possibility of accessing the keys of cars, mopeds and motorcycles, prohibiting the management of cars and motor vehicles without the appropriate right and driving skills. Remember that the lack of control over the behavior and leisure of children, especially in the evening, often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users," Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, told Izvestia.
On April 9, it was reported that in the first three months of 2025, 24 thousand road accidents occurred in Russia, which is 1.9% more than in the same period last year. As a result of these accidents, 2.6 thousand people died (-0.8%), 30.6 thousand were injured (+1.4%).
