The Constitutional Court of Moldova is considering the issue of limiting the powers of the Prosecutor's Office of Gagauzia. This was announced to journalists on April 14 by the deputy chairman of the People's Assembly (Parliament) of the region, Georgy Leychu.

"The court is considering this issue without even notifying us. We found out about this exactly 15 minutes ago," the Gagauzia24 portal quoted him as saying.

Leitch called it a gross violation of basic norms. He stressed that such decisions cannot be made without the participation of representatives of Gagauzia, since we are talking about the future of the autonomy.

On March 25, the head of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul, was detained at the Chisinau airport. According to the Moldovan Prosecutor General's Office, this happened after her name was found on the list of persons prohibited from leaving the country. On March 28, the head of Gagauzia was arrested for 20 days.

On April 9, a court in Chisinau ordered the transfer of Hutsuls to house arrest. The term of the preventive measure will be 30 days. At the same time, the defense considers the verdict of the court to be excessively strict.

On April 3, the official representative of the UN Secretary General, Stephane Dujarric, said that the United Nations (UN) was monitoring the situation with the arrest of the Hutsul and stressed the need to respect legal procedure and the rule of law. On April 2, after her arrest, the politician herself called on UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to pay attention to the situation around Gagauzia. Gutsul stressed that the Moldovan judicial system is used by the authorities as a tool to "dismantle the autonomy" of the region.
