Hockey diplomacy can have a big impact on shaping the world order. Alexander Medvedev, chairman of the Board of directors of the SKA hockey club, told Izvestia on April 14, commenting on possible matches between players of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and the National Hockey League (NHL).

"I believe that hockey diplomacy, like sports diplomacy in general, can play a big role in building a new world order. And given the love of hockey in our country and in North America, the idea that arose during a telephone conversation between two presidents, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, deserves every support," he said.

On March 18, during a telephone conversation, the US president supported Putin's proposal to hold hockey matches in the two countries between players playing in the NHL and KHL.

On April 11, Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports and President of the Russian Olympic Committee, announced that Moscow and Washington were discussing the possibility of holding these matches at the working level.
