Taxes for the wealthiest French, temporarily raised due to budget deficits, may remain forever. This was announced on April 13 by the head of the French Ministry of Finance, Eric Lombard, on the BFMTV channel.

According to him, contributions from the richest French should be preserved, since they can bring about $2 billion to the budget and affect "several tens of thousands of citizens." In this regard, the minister allowed an increase in taxes for the rich on a permanent basis.

"I want this contribution to be sustainable for people with high incomes or large assets, or both. <...> This is a matter of fairness, we ask everyone to make a lot of efforts," said Lombar.

The Finance Minister added that such taxes are substantial but fair.

Political scientist and publicist Yuri Svetov said on October 3, 2024, that French President Emmanuel Macron's approval of the idea of introducing additional taxes for large companies could threaten their departure from the country. According to him, the public always wants rich people to have more taxes. But the rich react in their own way - they leave the country, Svetov noted.
