Part of the roadside collapsed in the south-west of Sakhalin

Part of the roadside collapsed at the location of the culvert in the southwest of Sakhalin, as a result of which the authorities banned traffic on the site for all types of transport. This was announced on Sunday, April 13, by the regional Ministry of Transport and Road Management in the region.

It is specified that on 143 km of the Nevelsk – Tomari – Shakhtersk airport highway, a part of the earthwork collapsed at the location of the culvert due to flooding by meltwater, as a result of which the section was closed to traffic at 06:00 local time (22:00 Moscow time).

Specialists went to the site to assess the extent of the damage and develop an action plan to eliminate the emergency situation. Later, the department reported that emergency recovery equipment was sent to the destroyed site, including dump trucks, excavators, bulldozers, graders and loaders.

On April 14, the Federal Customs Service (FCS) announced the suspension of traffic through the Verkhny Lars multi-vehicle checkpoint for all types of transport due to bad weather conditions. They added that the work of the checkpoint will be adjusted after the improvement of weather conditions.
