US President Donald Trump's trade and manufacturing adviser Peter Navarro, who was called an idiot by the head of the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Elon Musk, confused the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) with South Korea.

The incident occurred on April 13 during Navarro's interview with NBC News, when he was asked how many countries the U.S. administration is currently negotiating trade agreements with.

"With the UK, the European Union, India, Japan, North Korea, Indonesia, Israel," he replied.

When the journalist asked him if he really meant North Korea, Navarro corrected himself and named South Korea. He also added that all the countries he named were literally "lining up" in anticipation of negotiations with Washington.

In addition, the adviser spoke about the recent incident with Musk, who called him an idiot, and also accused the head of DOGE of lying and compared him to a bag of bricks.

"I've been called worse," Navarro said.

The German newspaper Bild pointed out on April 12 that Trump was disappointed in some of his advisers because of their negative reaction to the decision to impose import duties on a number of countries. In particular, the publication noted that Peter Navarro and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnik are likely to "be sidelined." At the same time, Navarro may become a "scapegoat" in case of failure of duties, the newspaper added.
