US President Donald Trump may change his policy towards China amid the imposition of trade duties. This opinion was put forward on April 13 by Alexey Pushkov, Chairman of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy and Media Relations.

In his opinion, most Western media believe that the American leader will "yield" to Chinese President Xi Jinping on trade tariffs. Trump also expected a phone call from him the day before, but he never received it.

After that, the president called on the Chinese side to be more "flexible" because "you can't go through the wall" on the issue of resolving duties without China's participation.

"Perhaps the talk about flexibility was a preparation for a change of course, at least in relation to China," Pushkov wrote on his Telegram channel.

On April 9, the American leader announced that he was ready to hold a meeting with the Chinese president, and also called him his friend. At the same time, he ruled out the possibility of further increases in customs duties directed towards China.

Then, on April 10, CNBC, citing the White House, reported that Trump had increased duties on goods from China to 145%. U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance said Trump wants peace, but also wants fair trade and "greater self-sufficiency for the American economy."
