The German army called for full combat readiness by 2029

The German army should be in full combat readiness by 2029. This was reported on April 12 by the Welt newspaper, citing the words of the Inspector General of the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) Carsten Breuer.
"The Chief Inspector of Germany must bring the Bundeswehr to full combat readiness by 2029," the article says.
Breuer explained that the goal is to increase the number of the Bundeswehr to about 200,000 active military personnel. According to him, a permanent reserve of 60,000 people has now been formed.
"I expect that of the 800,000 former military personnel who have retired over the years, another 100,000 reservists will arrive. Thus, there remains a gap of 100,000 people that we need to fill," said the Inspector General.
Friedrich Merz, leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), said on April 9 that the new German government would develop military conscription in Germany according to the Swedish model. It was noted that at the end of 2024, the Bundeswehr faced a serious shortage of personnel and severe deterioration of military infrastructure.
