- The Interior Ministry warned about a new scheme of identity theft through "Public Services"

Fraudsters steal victims' personal data from profiles on the Gosuslugi portal by making a phone call, during which they introduce themselves as employees of medical institutions and offer to undergo a medical examination. This was reported to TASS on April 13 by the press service of the Department for the Organization of combating the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
The attackers, posing as employees of polyclinics, ask people to tell them the code from the message, which is actually needed to log into the Gosuslug account. After that, the scammers get access to all the personal data of the victims and can use them for their own purposes.
If a person falls for a fraudulent scheme, they may try to deceive him a second time, the department warned. The scammers make a second call and inform the victim about the hacking of his account, inviting her to contact customer support at a pre-arranged number. In a state of passion, a person calls the specified number, where he is advised to contact Rosfinmonitoring in order to allegedly save his money, where the victim is asked to fill out an application and attach photos of bank cards to it. After that, the attackers steal the money.
In order to protect themselves from fraudsters, a person needs to come up with and set complex passwords, the Interior Ministry advised. Another way is to install a two-factor authentication system.
On April 12, the UBK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reported that attackers were using a scheme to recommend that the victim, under various pretexts, install an application on the device that distributes malicious software aimed at stealing personal data.
