After European countries imposed sanctions against Russia in 2022, most European leaders resigned. This was reported on April 11 by the British newspaper The Guardian.

"The ban on contacts with Russia has not reduced domestic support for [Russian President] Vladimir Putin. Most of the Western leaders who imposed sanctions against him in 2022 have since lost their positions," the publication says.

The newspaper noted that the European position did not affect the course of the special military operation, despite the fact that sanctions against Moscow are currently the most severe and counterproductive.

However, the publication emphasized that the sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation has affected the increase in electricity and fuel prices in Europe.

On April 1, the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, announced that the European Union was discussing the introduction of a 17th package of sanctions against Russia. She recalled that Europe had recently adopted the 16th package of anti-Russian restrictions.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on March 18 that Russian entrepreneurs had successfully adapted to the Western sanctions mechanisms by creating alternative ways of interacting with foreign partners.
